Gilbert is the Guardian of the Books. He’s read EVERY book in the universe! He loves nothing more than embarking upon an epic adventure through his books! Who will he meet next? Will it be some dinosaurs? Or maybe he’ll fly on a broomstick? Why don’t you join him on his next adventure?
Storytelling is at the heart of Gilbert’s Adventures Through Books, where lighting, props, costumes and music bring stories to life through imagination and dance.
Led by PJ Hurst, who played the much-loved Petey the Polar Bear from our Snow Qween show, this is 45 minutes of imagination-sparking fun through books and dance.
There is a social cafe afterwards for wee ones and big ones to celebrate their adventure
Gilbert’s Adventures Through Books is a parent/carer and child movement workshop for under 5s.
If you have any questions, please call 01382 413 007 or email us here.

Stories, dancing, reading!
-
We are a multi award winning dance charity based here in Dundee. We worked in partnership with NHS Tayside for over 10 years to deliver a primary school’s workshop programme called ‘Well Good’ exploring the issues around addiction. We’ve worked with over 70k children on this project alone!
-
Gilbert’s Adventure is brought to life through a playful, imaginative approach that encourages children to explore stories with curiosity and confidence. We combine engaging storytelling, creative activities, and interactive moments that help young explorers connect with Gilbert’s journey in a meaningful way. We aim to spark a love of books and dancing, nurture imagination, and create a welcoming space where every child feels inspired to discover the joy of reading, dancing, and adventure. 📚

What happens if I miss a class?
We understand that sometimes you may not be able to attend a class due to illness or a holiday. We don’t offer refunds for missed classes, but you are welcome to offer your place to a friend instead.
Am I taking part too?
YES! For ’Gilbert’s Adventures Through Books’, it’s a key component that parents/carers join in! You are welcome to move at your own pace, and you don’t need any experience - it’s a brilliant opportunity to play and dance with your wee one! Think of it as a gentle workout for you, too! If that's too much for you though, Gilbert and our class assistant are always on hand to step in and offer support where needed. ALWAYS take it at your own pace and never feel any pressure to join in everything. 😀
What should my child wear?
Children should wear comfortable clothing appropriate for dancing about. Please don’t wear dresses or skirts. Same for you too! Wear something you can freely move about in.
My wee one has a younger sibling. Can they come too?
Yes, for our ’Gilbert’s Adventures Through Books’, we understand that, as you are taking part too, childcare can sometimes be complicated, so we are happy for wee or bigger siblings to attend this class when required.
