Lead Dance Artist

Shaper/Caper are recruiting for the new role of Lead Dance Artist

Shaper/Caper is a touring dance company based in Dundee, with a wide ranging engagement programme including Dance for Parkinson's classes and 116 workshops in primary schools each year.

We are looking for a warm, creative, and inspiring Lead Dance Artist, with a contemporary dance background, to join our award winning team at Shaper/Caper. In this role, you will work closely with our Artistic Director, Thomas Small.

The Lead Dance Artist:

  • works closely with our Artistic Director to develop creative experiences for people to enjoy, explore, and express themselves through movement and dance.

  • plays a key role in developing our ambitious plans for the growth of our engagement work across three interconnected strands of Shaper/Caper’s work: artistic creation, professional pathways, and creative experiences programmes, to make a positive impact on people and communities in Dundee and beyond.

  • manages a team of Dance Artists to deliver our engagement activity across our 3 strands.

  • makes the Artistic Director’s artistic vision happen: from developing new strands of engagement activity to managing existing programmes and all the bits in between and beyond!

Our priority audiences are Children and Young People, Working Class Families, LGBTQ+ people, and marginalised people or communities.

TERMS:

Contract: One year fixed term contract with ambition to extend subject to ongoing fundraising.

Salary: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum depending on experience.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

The day will start with a Company Class and learning repertoire. Candidates will then deliver a short 10-min creative task with primary school children so we can see you in delivery mode. Chair of Shaper/Caper

We are recruiting for a Chair of Shaper/Caper’s Board of Trustees.

As the new Chair of Shaper/Caper, you will have the experience and commitment to lead the Board as we build on the success of recent productions such as Small Town Boys, develop our organisation by securing multi-year funding, and set the strategic direction of the charity.

You will share our passion for dance and Dundee. In your role as champion and advocate for our work, you will be an excellent communicator and have experience building relationships with multiple stakeholders whilst articulating our values, relevance, maintaining and promoting our reputation.

You will play an essential part in creating the environment for our organisation to flourish. This will mean that your leadership of the Board both in meetings and otherwise will set the tone of our communication and support the delivery of our work.

Our work has three connected strands: artistic creation, creative experiences, and professional pathways.

We run creative programmes, workshops and performances that are inclusive and accessible. We nurture talent and provide opportunities for people to develop their creative practice and skills. We create high- quality productions that tour throughout Scotland and the UK.

Our work is inspired by stories and ideas from the people and communities we work with in Dundee and beyond.
