Trustee of Shaper/Caper

We are recruiting for a Trustee of Shaper/Caper’s Board.

We’re an award-winning dance company creating playful, heartfelt, and socially engaged work across performance, participation, and digital platforms.

We are particularly interested in people who have the following expertise or knowledge:

  • Creative uses of XR, AI, Metaverse technologies

  • Marketing & Communications

  • Finance & Fundraising

  • Community projects

  • Touring & Producing

  • Social Justice

  • Legal

  • HR

As we prepare to move into our own building for the first time, we’re also keen to hear from people who manage venues or buildings and can share their expertise and experience. You do not need any prior experience as a Trustee.

We are looking for Trustees who:

  • Have enthusiasm for Shaper/Caper’s artistic and engagement work, mission and values

  • Are passionate about the power and impact of the arts and creativity

  • Bring sound, independent judgement

  • Are strategic and creative thinkers

  • Willingness to use contacts and professional networks for the benefit of Shaper/Caper

  • Demonstrate The Seven Principles of Public Life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership

  • Can advocate for the charity

  • Can commit the time and energy required to undertake this rewarding role

  • Can offer specific expertise and knowledge in one the areas listed above

Chair of Shaper/Caper

We are recruiting for a Chair of Shaper/Caper’s Board of Trustees.

Shaper/Caper is a small organisation with a big heart and a bold creative vision.  

We are now at a particularly exciting moment. Following multi-year funding from Creative Scotland and the success of productions such as Small Town Boys, we are looking ahead to our next phase of growth with confidence and ambition. This is a wonderful time to step into the role of Chair and help shape what comes next.

As Chair, you will lead a committed and thoughtful board, working closely with our artistic and executive leadership to set strategic direction, champion our values, and ensure the organisation continues to flourish. You will be an advocate for dance, for Dundee and for the artists and communities we serve. Your ability to build strong relationships, communicate clearly and create a supportive, well-governed environment will be central to our continued success.

It is a role with responsibility and also with enormous reward.

We run creative programmes, workshops and performances that are inclusive and accessible. We nurture talent and provide opportunities for people to develop their creative practice and skills. We create high- quality productions that tour throughout Scotland and the UK.

Our work is inspired by stories and ideas from the people and communities we work with in Dundee and beyond.

We are always looking for volunteers to support our many projects.

From helping with our Dance for Parkinson’s sessions in Dundee to helping with shows and events, if this is of interest, we’d love to hear from you!
