Tour Booker

Fees: Daily fees in the range of £150-£175 depending on experience.

Shaper/Caper is led by multi award winning choreographer and BBC Radio 2 Artist in Residence, Thomas Small.  Our critically acclaimed dance theatre work has been presented internationally, including venues in Sao Paulo, New York City and Berlin (including a recent sold out performance at 9/11 Memorial & Museum at World Trade Center in New York City).  Our work ranges from a dance theatre production exploring the events of 9/11 to a site-specific promenade performance, based on Bizet's Carmen, and an immersive production for young children looking at 18th and 19th century poetry.  We are currently developing a new show for young people aged 12 to 15 that explores what it’s like for young LGBT+ people to come out in the 21st century.

We are recruiting for a freelance Tour Booker with the proven experience and skills to deliver all aspects of tour booking across Scotland.

•          Develop new and nurture existing relationships with presenters across Scotland the rest of the UK

•          Book tours in line with targets set by the Director of Operations

•          Negotiate financial deals with venues & festival presenters, including the agreement on fees, travel & accommodation arrangements, technical & marketing contras as appropriate

This is a freelance contract and we have secured initial funding for five months and plan to extend the contract for the right candidate.  We hope to develop a long-term relationship with the successful candidate.  We anticipate the Tour Booker working around 6 days a month, split over a number of days as and when venues respond.

Shaper/Caper is based in Dundee, but we are happy to accept applications from elsewhere across Scotland.  There is no requirement to work from Dundee for this role.  Applicants will be able to work from home with regular catch up meetings with the Artistic Director and Director of Operations (often via Skype).

The ideal applicant should have:

  • demonstrable experience of successfully booking tour dates across Scotland and, ideally but not essentially, across the UK and internationally
  • a proven ability to meet touring targets
  • excellent knowledge of Scottish touring circuit
  • current strong networks with venues and programmers
  • exceptional organisational skills

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a chat on either 14th or 15th March (this can be done via Skype if necessary).

We would very much like for the successful candidate to join us at FST’s Emporium event on Tues 20th and Wed 21st March.

This role has been made possible thanks to funding from DSEN’s Dundee Futures Fund.

Board of Trustees recruitment!

We are looking for dynamic people to join our Board of Trustees, with an interest in the arts and the skills required to help us achieve our future ambitions to diversify and broaden our activity.

Shaper/Caper is a charity based in Dundee presenting the work of multi award winning choreographer, Thomas Small.  Thomas is a Clore fellow and the first ever BBC Radio 2 Artist in Residence.  Shaper/Caper presents critically acclaimed performance work around the world and is complemented by a diverse Creative Learning programme for people of all ages.  We run two major creative learning programmes – Well Good, a partnership with NHS Tayside, which visits 116 primary schools each year, and Cmd-Shift, a year long digital arts project for young people aged 10 to 25 taking place in Dundee, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.  With Well Good alone, we will work with 7000 children this year.  Thomas’ work includes Within This Dust, an acclaimed piece of work exploring the events of 9/11 and interactive children’s show The Adventures of Isabel.  Both works have received 4 star reviews.  We became a charity in November 2016.

If you are interested in joining our board, please send your CV and expression of interest, stating why you think you would be a viable candidate to join our board to thomas@shapercaper.com
