Twenty Past Eight on a Sunday | Creatiful

      Yes, Duck | Creatiful
How does one avoid creating yet another unwanted reimagining of Greek Mythology? Perhaps by placing gods on trains and calling them ‘Duck.’
In this comically engaged, frankly bizarre, staging of Persephone and Hades, Persephone is the daughter of the inventors of the world’s first biodegradable theme park, Hades is a train conductor, and his infamous pomegranate seed takes the form of a tube of smarties off the buffet-trolley. Through a series of tenuously relevant references to Isaac Newton and some wonderfully earnest rollercoaster metaphors, we witness the biggest moment in our protagonist’s adult life: asking for a week off work.
Please note: This event contains strong language and adult themes suitable only for those aged 18 and over.
Writer and Director: Emily Briggs (she/her)
Performer: Felix Borreguero (he/him)

Screening: Bharathanatyam with Lakshmi Thiagarajan | Creatiful
A film screening of performer Lakshmi Thiagarajan showcasing the classical Indian dance form.
Bharathanatyam is a 2,000-year-old classical dance form that traces its origins to the temples and royal courts in Southern India. This performance by Lakshmi Thiagarajan showcases two pieces from the traditional repertoire - an Alarippu and Mallaisha Shailendra. The word ‘Alarippu’ means a flowering bud, and this is an abstract dance composition. Mallaisha Shailendra, a verse from a 13th century text called Krishnakarnamrutham examines the reactions of the audience as a young boy Krishna enters a wrestling rink to fight an evil king Kamsa and could be interpreted as a reflection of the many roles we each navigate in our lives, the different ways in which individuals perceive us and the way these relationships shape our identity.
Screening on a loop throughout the day.
